Statewide forum on Indigenous cultural heritage
Uncle Bob Anderson, chairperson of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Board, announced on February 25 that the Advisory Board, in co-operation with the Queensland Indigenous Working Group (QIWG) and FAIRA Aboriginal Corporation, as a united front will sponsor a statewide forum on Indigenous cultural heritage.



QIWG encourages all Indigenous Queenslanders to oppose legislation
The Queensland Indigenous Working Group (QIWG) is deeply disappointed by the Queensland Government's draft model for new cultural heritage legislation, released on 22 December 1999.

Mandatory sentencing must be scrapped
The chair of ATSIC, Mr Geoff Clark, has called on the Prime Minister, Mr Howard, to initiate Commonwealth action on mandatory sentencing laws in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, rather than waiting to be shamed into it by the United Nations.

 

Media asked to show more respect
Northern Territory shadow minister John Ah Kit issued a statement appealing to the nation's media following the death in detention of the 15-year-old Wurramarrba youth from Groote Eylandt last month.
